Swamp Dribble & A High Pitched Morse Bleep: Text Scores 1993-2023

from The Erratic

Book/Magazine

Paperback, 132 pages.
A collection of 47 text scores written over a period of thirty years, with an introductory essay and the full script for one of the scores.
Inspired by the indeterminate scores of the New York School of North American composers (such as John Cage, Morton Feldman et al), and the text scores of the Fluxus group and associated musicians and artists (such as La Monte Young), the text scores in this volume can be seen as either: a set of instructions which when followed result in a musical performance or recording; a poetic statement which conjures a musical idea in the mind of the reader; or, an aide mémoire reminding the writer to act on a musical idea at a later date. Some of them are simple, such as "Hum Drum - construct a piece out of only these two components: a hum and a drum," or complex, such as the idea outlining how to use a landscape as a score, where a person walking through the landscape becomes the composer.
